Work & Play

We're the g-sters, like hipsters only cooler.

I love my yuppie friends who like to discuss business matters about stocks, investments and the like, but the fact is that I’m a com major. And although that might sound extremely stereotypical of my course and belittling to my own capacity to understand issues of this nature my point is this:  it doesn’t matter because it really doesn’t peak my interest.

I know that I can probably offer my own 2 centavos to the discussion but after my block and g inuman about 2 weeks ago, i realized how refreshing it is to talk about work and an industry that relates directly to me and laugh about pop culture trivia and comments that only people like us will find funny and appreciate.

Blockmates by choice

The story of block TR is one that I was really excited to share. I’m really glad I had an opportunity to get their unique story out on g!

A couple of days ago, while I was  interviewing and shooting a freshman block that I’m featuring for the next issue of g, I suddenly got nostalgic. There was something oddly familiar about the bouts of laughter, teasing and taunting that characterized them in between each take.  The uuuuys of the typical and non-existent coupling off and the frantic dash to the front of the SLR for pictures. Although I was watching their dynamic from a distance, I felt connected to them through my own memory. That was my block, A3, almost 3 years ago.

We’ve always prided ourselves as a relatively close block. We were known for it and our facebook and tumblr feeds would overflow with our love for each other. It was only in our junior year of college when we really stopped hanging out as much as we used to. You can blame a lot of factors like different tracks, friends, boy/girl friends, schedules, extra curricular activities for branching us all in different directions.

I call it the block curse which is probably the cousin of the JTA curse because they both happen in junior year and cause involved participants to grow apart and eventually break up. But unlike JTA, a majority of us haven’t left the country. I know.  I’m being dramatic. I’m pretty sure a3 won’t completely disband. I just have a slight case of missing-itis haha. Symptoms include hot flashes accompanied by memories like…
